Model History

This Cyma dates from an interesting transitional period in the history of the Swiss watch industry. From the late 1960s onwards, Cyma became part of Synchron, a Swiss watch group that also brought together other established manufacturers, including Doxa and Ernest Borel. Watches from this period were therefore frequently signed “Cyma by Synchron”, as seen on this example.

The Synchron era produced a wide range of watches using reliable Swiss ébauches, particularly movements from ETA, often re-signed and given Synchron calibre designations. This watch is powered by the 17-jewel Synchron calibre 45, a manually wound movement with date indication belonging to the ETA 2750 family.

Its design is characteristic of the early 1970s: a restrained silver sunburst dial, applied baton hour markers, a framed date aperture at 3 o'clock and a relatively slim case with angular lugs. The original steel bracelet complements the clean, understated appearance particularly well.

According to the original Cyma guarantee booklet, the watch was purchased on 3 January 1973, suggesting that it was most likely produced in the early 1970s.

Condition

The watch is preserved in very attractive vintage condition.

The original silver sunburst dial remains exceptionally clean, with a strong radial finish, well-preserved printed details and applied baton hour markers. The framed date aperture and original hands are likewise well presented.

The original acrylic crystal is in near-mint condition, with no significant scratches or damage visible. The chrome-plated case shows only light age-appropriate signs of wear and retains its crisp angular lug design and polished bezel.

The watch remains fitted with its original stainless-steel Cyma/Synchron bracelet, including its signed adjustable clasp. The bracelet shows normal light wear but remains in very good overall condition.

An especially attractive feature of this example is its surviving original presentation set: both the period Cyma box and the multilingual original guarantee booklet are included. The booklet is dated 3 January 1973.

The movement has been fully serviced, and all functions are operating correctly. The watch is supplied with a 6-month functional guarantee from the date of purchase.
