Model History:

The Seiko 7017-6020 “Speed-Timer” belongs to the brand’s early generation of automatic chronographs. Produced for the Japanese domestic market, the model appeared in 1970, during a period when Seiko was rapidly developing its own automatic chronograph movements.

The watch is powered by the Seiko 7017A automatic calibre. The chronograph is operated by two pushers: the upper pusher starts and stops the timing function, while the lower pusher resets it. One of the movement’s most distinctive features is its flyback function, which allows the chronograph hand to return to zero without first stopping the mechanism, after which a new timing cycle begins immediately.

Its black dial is complemented by a bright orange central chronograph hand, clearly defined scales and a tachymeter bezel. With its distinctive case shape, early 7017 flyback movement and bold dial design, the 7017-6020 is a strong example of Seiko’s technical and stylistic experimentation in automatic chronographs around 1970.
