Model History:
The Seiko 7017-6020 "Speed-Timer" is part of Seiko's second generation of automatic chronographs and a notable evolution of their mid-70s sports chronograph lineup. Introduced exclusively for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), the 7017 series was known for its technical simplicity and slim case profile, enabled by the unique one-pusher chronograph design. Unlike dual-pusher chronographs, the 7017 features a single button to start, stop, and reset the chronograph - a signature quirk that sets it apart. The "Speed-Timer" branding, paired with the lightning bolt motif on the dial, reinforces its roots in Seiko’s high-performance chronograph family. With its bold orange central chrono hand, tachymeter bezel, and racing-inspired aesthetic, this model reflects the peak of 1980s JDM chronograph design.
