Model History

Introduced in 1961, King Seiko represented one of Seiko’s prestigious mechanical watch lines and was developed by the Daini Seikosha factory in Kameido. The 44KS generation followed in the mid-1960s, combining refined hand-wound movements with the clean, sharply defined casework that became characteristic of Seiko’s finest watches of the period.

Reference 4402-8000 is the calendar-equipped version of the 44KS. Its silver sunburst dial, applied faceted indices, framed date window and angular lugs give it an understated yet distinctive appearance. Inside is the calibre 4402A, a high-grade 25-jewel hand-wound movement with hacking seconds and a quick-set date mechanism.

This example was manufactured in February 1967 and retains several desirable period details, including its signed crown and gold-tone Seiko medallion on the case back.

Condition

The watch is in attractive vintage condition, showing honest age-related wear. The stainless-steel case has surface scratches and small marks consistent with its age, while its characteristic shape and angular lugs remain clearly defined.

The original silver sunburst dial displays a few small age-related spots and light patina on several applied indices, but it is overall well-preserved. The hands also show minor signs of age.

The original acrylic crystal has been polished and presents well, although minor traces of previous wear may remain. The signed crown and gold-tone Seiko medallion are present. A new black leather strap has been fitted.

The hand-wound movement has been professionally serviced and is covered by a 6-month functionality guarantee from the date of purchase.
