Model History
The Seiko 6139 is one of the most important chronograph calibres in horological history, introduced in 1969 as part of the race to develop the world’s first automatic chronograph. Seiko’s solution stood out thanks to its robust construction, featuring both a column wheel and vertical clutch, technology still used in modern high-end chronographs.
The “Pogue” nickname originates from astronaut William Pogue, who wore a yellow-dial 6139 during the Skylab 4 mission, making it one of the first automatic chronographs used in space.
This particular example is the desirable JDM blue “Speedtimer” variant, produced for the Japanese domestic market. Early examples from 1969, like this one, are especially collectible, featuring the characteristic notched case design and classic Pepsi tachymeter bezel.

Condition
This watch is in very good vintage condition with attractive, honest wear.
The stainless steel case remains well-defined, with visible but even signs of use consistent with age, while still retaining the original notched case geometry. The bezel insert is original and shows light wear and fading, adding to the authentic vintage character.
The original dark blue dial is well preserved, with a subtle patina. The applied indices have developed a warm, aged lume tone, and the hands show matching ageing, maintaining a cohesive look.
The watch has received a full professional service, including new gaskets, and all functions operate correctly. The chronograph resets properly, and the day-date mechanism works as intended.
A new crystal has been installed, ensuring excellent clarity, and the watch is fitted with a new aftermarket stainless steel bracelet.
Apart from the crystal and bracelet, the watch retains its original core components (case, dial, hands, bezel).
The watch has been completely serviced by our professional watchmaker and tested for full functionality. The water resistance of the watch cannot be guaranteed.
