Model History
Introduced during one of the most important periods in Seiko's mechanical watchmaking history, the Seikomatic 6216-9000 represents the upper end of the company's automatic production in the mid-1960s.
The Seikomatic family played an important role in Seiko's development of increasingly sophisticated automatic movements before the arrival of the first automatic Grand Seiko watches. The 6216-9000 is consequently often referred to by collectors as the “Baby GS”, although this is an unofficial nickname rather than an original Seiko designation.
At the heart of the watch is the 39-jewel Seiko calibre 6216A, an unusually highly jewelled automatic movement for its period. The architecture of the 62-series would subsequently form the technical foundation for the calibre 6245 and 6246 movements used in the celebrated 62GS, Seiko's first automatic Grand Seiko generation.
The relationship is also apparent aesthetically. The 6216-9000 combines sharply defined lugs, a polished round bezel, applied faceted hour markers and angular hands with a restrained silver dial. Its relatively substantial approximately 37 mm stainless-steel case also gives the watch considerably more wrist presence than many Japanese dress watches of the same period.

Condition
The watch is presented in attractive and honest vintage condition.
The original silver sunburst dial remains clearly legible and retains its applied faceted hour markers and original printed details. It shows some natural ageing, including light spotting, patina and areas of discolouration, particularly visible under certain lighting conditions. These marks are consistent with the watch's age and have been left untouched rather than refinished.
The stainless-steel case remains well presented, with normal surface marks and light scratches resulting from decades of use. Its angular lug design and overall case geometry remain clearly defined.
The original acrylic crystal has been carefully polished and presents well, although minor imperfections might still be visible under close inspection. The watch is fitted with its original signed Seiko stainless-steel bracelet, which also shows age-appropriate signs of wear.
The automatic movement has been fully serviced and checked, and all functions are operating correctly. The watch is supplied with a 6-month functional guarantee.
As with any vintage watch of this age, water resistance is not guaranteed and contact with water is not recommended.
The watch has been serviced by our professional watchmaker and tested for full functionality. The water resistance of the watch cannot be guaranteed.
