Hamilton × L.L.Bean Field Pocket Watch – Ref. 916580

Model History

 

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Hamilton produced several military-inspired watches for L.L.Bean, the American company specialising in outdoor clothing and equipment. Reference 916580 was the pocket-watch counterpart to the better-known wristwatch models from this collaboration and appears to have been offered for only a relatively short period.

 

Its highly legible black dial, 12/24-hour scales and bead-blasted stainless-steel case draw directly on the practical design of Hamilton’s military field watches. The dial bears both the L.L.Bean and Hamilton names, making it an unusual and instantly recognisable piece from the early history of the Hamilton Khaki collection.

Condition

 

The pocket watch is presented in attractive vintage condition. Its stainless-steel case retains the characteristic matt, bead-blasted finish, with light scratches, small marks and signs of wear consistent with age and use.

 

The original black dial remains clear and highly legible. The painted Arabic numerals and inner 24-hour scale are well preserved. The luminous triangular hour markers and the luminous material on the hands have developed a warm beige patina.

 

The hands display natural discolouration and traces of oxidation, contributing to the authentic vintage appearance of the watch. The crystal has been replaced and is new and free from scratches.

 

The hand-wound movement has been serviced, and the pocket watch is supplied with a 6-month guarantee on functionality from the date of purchase.
