Model History

Universal Genève is best known today for landmark models such as the Compax chronographs, Polerouter and the ultra-thin Shadow series, but the manufacture also produced an extensive range of refined ladies’ watches throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Reference 842606 belongs to this period and is a particularly elegant example of Universal Genève’s compact dress-watch design. Its softly rounded, almost oval stainless-steel case flows directly into the bracelet, while the white dial is given a more distinctive character by bold black Roman numerals and matching dark hands.

The watch is powered by Universal Genève’s calibre 42, a slim in-house manual-winding movement introduced during the 1960s. Measuring only around 2.45 mm in height, the calibre was well suited to the elegant, low-profile watches for which Universal Genève became known during this period. It features 17 jewels and runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

Condition

The watch is presented in attractive vintage condition.

The stainless-steel case retains its distinctive softly rounded shape and brushed finish. Light scratches and small signs of wear are visible, as expected on a watch of this age, but the overall case geometry remains well preserved.

The white dial is clean and highly legible, with bold black Roman numerals and matching dark hands providing a strong contrast. The dial has aged well overall and retains a very attractive, classic appearance. The acrylic crystal has been replaced with a new, scratch-free crystal, providing a clear view of the dial.

The watch retains its original Universal Genève steel bracelet, complete with the original signed clasp. The bracelet shows normal age-related wear but remains well preserved. The original crown is also present and bears the Universal Genève logo.

The movement has been fully serviced in May 2026 and is operating correctly. The watch is supplied with a 6-month functional guarantee from the date of purchase.
